What is KosherWorld?+
KosherWorld is a mobile app for iOS and Android that helps Jewish users identify whether food products in supermarkets are kosher. You can scan a product's barcode, take a photo of the label, or search our database of 50,000+ products — and get an instant, evidence-backed kosher verdict.
How does the barcode scanning work?+
Simply point your phone's camera at any product barcode in a supermarket. The app reads the barcode, queries our database of kosher-certified products, and returns a result — Kosher, Not Kosher, or Unknown — along with the source of the determination and the confidence level.
Does it work in my country?+
KosherWorld works in over 30 countries worldwide, including the USA, UK, Brazil, France, Germany, Australia, and many more. Our database is continuously growing with new products and countries being added regularly through official certifications and community contributions.
What is Strict Mode?+
Strict Mode is designed for highly observant users. When enabled, only products with official kosher certifications (from recognized authorities like OU, CRC, Badatz) or verified user submissions will be marked as "Kosher." Community data, Chabad lists, and OCR analysis will return "Unknown" instead, providing an extra layer of confidence.
What if a product isn't in the database?+
If a product isn't found in our database, the app will return an "Unknown" status. You can try using the OCR photo scan feature to analyze the product label text. We never falsely mark a product as kosher — when in doubt, we always say "Unknown" and recommend consulting a local authority.
Is the app free?+
Yes! KosherWorld is free to download and use on both iOS and Android. All core features — barcode scanning, product search, kosher restaurant finder, and Chabad center locator — are available at no cost.
What is the OCR photo scan feature?+
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) allows you to take a photo of a product's label when the barcode is damaged or unreadable. The app uses AI-powered text recognition to extract information from the label and check it against our kosher database. This serves as a fallback when barcode scanning isn't possible.
Where does your kosher data come from?+
Our data comes from multiple trusted sources: official kosher certification authorities (OU, CRC, Badatz, and others), Chabad community lists, community-verified submissions, and OCR analysis. Every result clearly shows which source provided the information, so you always know the basis for the verdict.
Can I find kosher restaurants nearby?+
Yes! KosherWorld includes a kosher restaurant directory that shows restaurants near your location. Each listing includes the restaurant name, city, kashrut authority, website, map directions, and contact information. You can also browse by country.
Does the app support Hebrew?+
Absolutely! KosherWorld was built with Hebrew as the default language. The app features a complete Hebrew interface with full RTL (right-to-left) support. You can seamlessly switch between Hebrew and English at any time from the settings.
How do I report an incorrect result?+
If you believe a result is incorrect, you can report it directly from the product result screen in the app. Our team reviews all reports carefully and updates the database accordingly. You can also contact us through the website's contact form with details about the product and the issue.
Can I save products for offline access?+
Yes! You can bookmark products from both barcode scans and database searches. Your saved products are accessible for quick reference. The app also maintains a full scan history organized by date, so you can revisit any previous scan result anytime.
